The Caminito del Rey, the King’s Path, is a historic walking path with a total length of 7.7 km (of which 4.8 km is an ‘approach and exit route’). It winds at a high altitude through the gorge of the mighty Desfiladero de los Gaitanes, an hour’s drive above Málaga. Until 2015, this path had the dubious name of ‘the most dangerous hiking trail in Europe’, but it is now a well-secured route.
Anyone who likes silence and real adventure will certainly not find that here. You do the Caminito for the spectacular photos, the views and for the ‘experience’.
This natural enclave has been a center of influence from prehistoric times to the present day for the settlement and development of human groups in the area surrounding the Gaitanejo and El Chorro Natural Area, documented by the abundance of archaeological sites.
