Just outside Nerja are the stalactite caves of the ‘Cueva de Nerja’. Numerous archaeological finds and several murals have been made in these caves of Nerja. For example, in 2012, cave drawings of Neanderthals that could be 42,000 years old were even found. These caves are now believed to be just three entrances to an undiscovered chain of sinkholes that extends for many kilometers into the mountains between Nerja and Granada.
The currently discovered caves extend for almost 5 kilometers. You can visit some of the caves; part via several show spaces that are relatively easy to visit via stairs and concrete paths. There is even a ‘Sala de la Cascada o del Ballet’, where concerts and dance shows can be given for up to a hundred people.
